Nasarawa: Agency trains 200 businesses on climate-smart practices

Nasarawa state Investment and Development Agency (NASIDA) on Thursday, said it has trained 200 business owners cross the state on climate – smart practices.

Managing Director of the agency, Ibrahim Abdullahi, disclosed this during a two-day business support training and sensitization on climate- smart practices in Lafia.

He said climate change has become an issue of the day thereby, business owners will be train on different approaches to be able to build resistance to effects of climate change as well as to sustain their businesses.

The MD who was represented by the head of Infrastructure Finance PPP,( NASIDA), Mayowa Edgar, explained that most of the businesses are threatening by impacts of climate change and they will be train on how to switch to more climate Smart practices.

” Today we are having a capacity training for businesses in Nasarawa state specifically the Small and Medium Scale businesses on climate-Smart business practices.The idea for this engagement is in line with the development of the Climate Development Platform in Nasarawa state.

” We are working in collaboration with murty International Ltd. under the support of the African Climate Foundation they have being working in Nasarawa in order to enhance the Climate Investments Platform (CIP) for Nasarawa state which is the first of it kind in Nigeria.

“The focus for today is to cascade the benefit of what business smart practices can be to the business community to things they can do practically that they can help their businesses more climate friendly and also save cost in a long run.

She observed that business owners preparedness to effects of climate change revealed low level of awareness on climate change, with limited capacity to withstand the negative impacts among the SMEs.

Speaking, Project Consultant, Nasarawa Climate Investment Platform and general practices specialist, Dr. Adnan Aminu, said the whole idea was to train small business owners on the effect of climate change and to understand how climate change impact their businesses.

He said with the training they can make their businesses more climate Smart. ” We are here to inform them about the reality of climate change, make them see it from their own perspectives and how it affects their businesses.

” Our ultimate target is that at end of this we will be able to shift some of them from going through the business as usual ways of doing things to more smart Climate ways of doing business.”
