N628m New Nyanya bus terminal nears completion – Bello

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has assured residents that it would do everything possible to complete the New Nyanya bus terminal to ease the trouble of the motoring public.
The Minister stated this on Tuesday when he inspected the site of the old Nyanya Motor Park and the ongoing permanent Nyanya bus terminal to ascertain the level of progress at the site.

He said: “As you can see it’s a very massive complex consisting of departure and arrival halls, a banking hall, garage for the basic maintenance of motor vehicles as well as commercial blocks. The construction has gone up to sixty per cent according to the contractors and our engineers and so from what we have seen it is very important for us to deploy human and material resources to make sure that the project is completed as quickly as possible.”
He added that the contractors had assured that “they will be able to finish it by the end of the year depending on the availability of funds.”
He, however, lamented that the project was conceived without the construction of access roads, staying that it’s a challenge for a complex of that nature.

He said: “Looking at both the human and vehicular traffic it’s very important to have a very clear entry and exit road that is well constructed to make sure that it caters for heavy duty vehicles. That’s a challenge but we are going to look at it.”
He noted that the old Nyanya Motor Park in reality shouldn’t have been a park “because mainly it is meant to be a beautiful enclosure that is going to be a green area and I think for all intent and purposes that side is no longer on the table we are working on completing the new site.”
Our correspondent recalls that the FCTA had abandoned the motor park following the bombing that occurred there over two years ago.
Blueprint gathered that the contract sum was put at N628, 265,998.63, but only N49. 384 million had been paid to the AU General and Sons Ltd.
