Civil servants in Oyo state under the aegis of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Monday threatened to embark on a sit-at-home protest if the state government fails to comply with its demands on wage award by this weekend.
Rising from a congress at the NLC state secretariat, Ikolaba Ibadan, the workers said there is no going back on a wage award of N35,000 for workers and N25,000 for pensioners in line with the federal government economic relief package for workers to ameliorate economic hardship due to fuel subsidy removal.
At the congress, the civil servants stated that by the end of this month October, the entire workers in the Oyo state civil service would embark on sit- at- home protest should the government failed to meet up with their demand.
Briefing journalists, Oyo state NLC chairman, Comrade Kayode Martins, said the state NLC will pursue the resolutions of the congress to a logical conclusion until the state government aligned with their demands.
Comrade Martins said: “Today’s congress was solely called on wage award issue, it’s been lingering all the while and workers in the state are fed up, even the pensioners, we’ve been having series of meetings, like we told the governor when the ad hoc committee was inaugurated that people are fed up already.”
