Leading ground handling firm, the Skyway Aviation Handling Company PLC (SAHCO) has described a report of multi-billion naira drug operations at its base at the Lagos airport as misleading, affirming the country’s security apparatus has unfettered access to its operations.
The company’s spokesperson, Vanessa Unansohia, described the news as malicious, affirming it is a figment of the writer’s imagination.
“Let me say without mincing words that the report is false and it is only a figment of the imagination of the reporter.
“Although, we serve as a gateway to Imports and Exports in Nigeria and we are proud to provide such a world class facility in Nigeria, our role does not include verification, checking the content of cargo as alleged in this report. It is therefore fiendish and cruel to insinuate we run a drug cartel.” She told journalists in Lagos.
The firm reiterated that “all government agencies, including National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the Department of State Services, (DSS), Quarantine, Airforce etc, have unfettered access to its warehouse where they carry out their duties without any interference.
“It is therefore important to note that this is not the first-time suspects will be arrested within our facilities and we always cooperate with the agencies while they carry out their investigation without shielding anyone involved be it our staff, contractor or business partner.
“As a responsible company, we make available the latest technology to assist Government agencies to fight any form of crime within our facilities and we will not relent in doing that.” She added via an electronic document made available to journalists.”
