The federal government’s drive to position Nigeria as a global hub for technical talent has received a significant boost, as MTN Nigeria pledged a cumulative N3 billion in support of the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) initiative.

Announcing the development, the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, highlighted the importance of strategic public-private collaborations in accelerating the country’s digital transformation agenda.

“I acknowledge MTN Nigeria’s long-term support for the 3MTT Nigeria program, with a cumulative investment of N3 billion since inception,” Dr. Tijani said, stressing that the telecoms giant has been actively backing the initiative even before its recent public rollout.

The 3MTT initiative, a key component of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope agenda, aims to train three million Nigerians in various digital and technical skills by 2027. It is expected to create a robust digital workforce capable of meeting both domestic and global demand for tech talent.

MTN’s support follows similar contributions from other industry players. In March, Airtel Africa Foundation announced a N1 billion grant to aid the program.

Earlier, the Ministry signed a N1 billion agreement with telecom infrastructure firm IHS Towers to build 37 learning communities across Nigeria—one per state and the Federal Capital Territory.

The IHS partnership also includes the funding of salaries for dedicated community managers in each location over a three-year period, further enhancing the initiative’s sustainability and reach.

“MTN, as one of our early backers, has helped drive inclusive access to digital skills across Nigeria. This kind of sustained collaboration is what powers our vision of a future-ready workforce and a Nigeria that exports technical talent globally,” Tijani noted.
