Mothers should take responsibilities, monitor their children’s activities – NCWS president

The President of the National Council of Women Societies (NCWS), Federal Capital Territory, Chapter, Hajiya Hadiza Abdullahi Umar, has denounced the anti-social activities of some Nigerian youths.

The NCWS president, whose tenure ends soon, bemoaned a situation where youths no longer place value on skills and other decent means of livelihood, but have inculcated the culture of pursuing wealth at all costs, not minding the consequences.

She urged parents, especially mothers, to brace up to their position as the soul of the home and change the narrative by monitoring and guiding the activities of their children.

She decried the discrimination against girls, especially those who were expelled from school due to teenage pregnancies, even when they are into the situation through criminal acts like rape.

“Imagine where teenagers are raped, even by their parents or brothers. So we have taken it upon ourselves to go to palaces, market squares, house-to-house, even to different women’s meetings in order to sensitise people.

“A lot of things are wrong with the society which has become painful to motherhood. Imagine children of 15 to 18 years are becoming rich without anyone knowing the source of their money; so we are urging mothers to monitor and call their children to order,” She said.
