The newly elected traditional ruler of Umueze Awkunanau ancient kingdom in Nkanu West local government area of Enugu state, Chief Emeka Ani, has commended the state governor, Barrister Peter Mbah, for his remarkable developmental efforts across the state.
Igwe Ani made the commendation during a visit to the council headquarters, where he was presented to the Chairman of Nkanu West local government area, Hon. John C. Ogbodo, for confirmation.
Emerging victorious in the traditional election held on April 12, Igwe Ani secured over 676 votes, thereby defeating his nearest rival, who received not more than 67 votes.
In his address, Igwe Ani pledged to support the state government in its endeavors to maintain and enhance the progress being made across Enugu state.
He expressed his commitment to ensuring that the incumbent governor was re-elected in 2027, with the goal of transforming Enugu into a prominent tourist destination in Nigeria.
“I promise to reciprocate the overwhelming support I received from my community during and after the election. I will work to restore the cultural heritage of our community, guarantee the security of lives and property, and foster viable development initiatives,” he said.
Igwe Ani emphasised the importance of cooperation between his community and the state government, local government, and relevant authorities to align with Governor Mbah’s vision for the state’s development.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the council, Hon. John C. Ogbodo, expressed his gratitude to the Umueze community for their commitment to a transparent and fair electoral process that culminated in the election of Chief Emeka Ani as the new traditional ruler.
He emphasised the importance of unity and collaboration, urging Chief Ani to engage with those who opposed him during the election.
Hon. Ogbodo highlighted the various ongoing developmental initiatives spearheaded by Governor Mbah’s leadership, such as the Smart Green School and a Type 2 hospital, among other projects aimed at enhancing the welfare of the community, describing him as a “master of projects.”
Earlier, Chairman town union caretaker committee of the community, Engineer Daniel Okwudili Ohaa, with elders presented the Igwe elect, Chief Ani to the council Chairman, thanking Governor Mbah for creating the platform, six years after the death of the former Igwe.
