Mikati joins PDP’s Kaduna guber race, donates vehicles to party

Former manager of Dangote Flour, Alhaji Shuaibu Idris Mikati, yesterday declared his intention to contest for Kaduna gubernatorial election in 2019 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), just as he donated two vehicles to the party.
Mikati, who also participated in Kaduna state PDP gubernatorial primaries in 2007 and 2011, said his vast experience in the private sector and wide contacts in the business world stand him in good position to create and implement ideas to take Kaduna state out of the doldrums and reposition the state for development.
Speaking yesterday when he took his letter of intent to the PDP state secretariat, Mikati urged the party to put its act together to ensure that it presents a credible candidate that will beat the incumbent hands down, noting that there may not be second chance for the party if it lost out in 2019.
“I want to contest for Kaduna state governorship election under the PDP in 2019.
I joined the PDP in 2000 and since I have never thought and will never think of leaving the party.
I was invited to contest for Senate under the CPC but I said I’m not into politics because of money.
“I’m not looking for name, I’m not rich but I have means of looking for money so I’m not looking for money.
I believe I have goodwill to move Kaduna to greater heights.
If you give me the ticket, we are set to move the state forward and we would give the party leadership opportunity to make input into governance even the youth will have their chance because we don’t know it all.
“As we plan to regain power, we should put our house in order because APC has power of incumbency and there is the Buhari’s factor.
We should look deep down and see who PDP can present that will match the incumbent in terms of knowledge, intelligence, ability and performance.
“We are not in power, if we spend our energy on primaries and became exhausted during the general elections, it won’t be best.
Let’s employ wisdom and savvy to recapture power in Kaduna state because if we miss it again, we would be in soup.” PDP Kaduna state chairman, Mr Felix Hassan Hyet, thanked Mikati for donating vehicles to the party for campaign saying: “You belong to a group of leaders that would not be moving from one place to another to achieve their aims.
“Our campaigns should be issued based because we have a government that lacked focus, that is known for double standard.
It is our responsibility to rise up and change this government and bring in people that knows what it means to lead the people”.
