Concerned market women in Benin City, Edo state, Monday demanded justice for slain housewife, Success Izekor, who was allegedly stabbed to death by her husband at their home at No: 50, Upper Mission Road.
The women who marched through major roads in Benin City with placards decried mentioned cases of violence melted on wives by their spouses.
Spokesperson for the protesting women, Odion Asemota, appealed to government to ensure justice for success.
Odion said, “Although her husband is facing trial, his mother is bragging that her son will be freed because the police were told he had mental issues.
“This was a man who married Success in June last year, just 8 months later, he stabbed her to death with four month pregnancy.
“Her husband, Kelvin Izekor killed the girl Saturday night. He went to her store on Sunday and took money she is using for Point of Sale (POS) business.
“He tried to secretly dispose off her corpse on Sunday but was caught by neighbours,” she said.
The state police command had confirmed the murder in a statement issued by its spokesman, CSP, Moses Yamu.
Yamu said: “The police received information that one Kelvin Izekor has killed his wife named Success Izekor aged 38 yrs and was about to be lynched by an irate mob.
“Operatives of the Aduwawa Division swiftly responded to the report and met the lifeless body of the woman lying in the pool of her own blood with deep cuts on her head.
“It took serious efforts by the Police operatives to pacify the mob, rescue, and take the suspect into custody for investigation.”
