Senator Kabiru Garba Marafa has lamented the death of his political ally, Alhaji Magaji Lawali, who was allegedly detained by Zamfara state Community Protection Guard (CPG) officials in Tsafe local government area of Zamfara state.
Sen. Marafa stated this Tuesday in an interview with newsmen shortly after the funeral of the deceased in Yandoto town.
He said late Lawali was invited by the officials of CPG on Saturday for questioning at their office in Tsafe local government.
“When they invited him and one other person, he informed me and I suggested that they should go and honour their invitation only to hear that he died while in detention,” Sen. Marafa said.
He alleged that the deceased was detained by the officials of CPG for over 24 hours after which he was allegedly tortured.
“Going by the pictures we got from doctor’s report at the Federal Medical Center, Gusau, the deceased was seriously tortured with wounds in his entire body before he died.
“As I am talking now, we are gathering all the necessary facts and if what we are alleging against the CPG officials is true, we will go to any length to fight for the fundamental right of the deceased,” Sen. Marafa said.
He described the incident as callous and barbaric, saying justice must prevail.
Our correspondent gathered that Late Magaji Lawali was invited by the officials of CPG on Saturday 10 of February at their local government headquarters in Tsafe local government for questioning relating to banditry issue and he reportedly died in their detention room late Sunday evening.
