Mandela writing contest: Abuja writers call for entry

The Abuja Writers Forum (AWF) has announced a call for entry into the writing contest as part of the Nelson Mandela Day 2016 events.
According to a release obtained at the Forum’s website, the contest would be part of the July 30th, Guest Writer Session which would be dedicated to the celebration of the iconic leader – Nelson Mandela.
It reads: “It is supported by the South African High Commission and the Nelson Mandela Institute, Abuja. Winning entries will be read at the event by the writers.”

Entry guidelines:
a. Poetry: Contestants should submit a poem about a year in solitary confinement.
b. Short Story: Everyone takes a risk that could be an act of courage at some point in their life. Contestants should write about a time when their character takes a chance and the subsequent result. The story should not be more than 1,500 words.
c. Entries should be sent to [email protected] .
d. Closing date for entries is midnight of Friday, July 22, 2016
e. Entry is open to only registered members of the Abuja Writers Forum.
f. Each Submission must adhere to the relevant writing guidelines.

g. By participating in the Writing Contest, each entrant represents and warrants that: (i) the Submission is original to the entrant, and all right, title and interest (including but not limited to copyright) therein and thereto is exclusively owned and/or controlled by the entrant to the full extent necessary to enable the Sponsor to use the Submission as contemplated by these Official Rules.
h. The Submission has not been previously exploited or published in any form, excluding Self-Published Works, and no rights in or to the Submission have been granted, pledged, or assigned to any third party which would interfere with or derogate from the rights granted to the Sponsors.

i. The Sponsors reserve the right, in their sole discretion, to immediately disqualify, without notice, any and all Submissions that do not comply with the Submission Requirements set out above.
j. Submissions shall not be returned to the entrant for any reason. No communication or correspondence will be exchanged with entrants except with the entrants selected as winners.
k. The decision of the judges is final.
