A 47-year-old man, Uzoma Kalu, who allegedly obtained N1 million on the pretext of selling a plot of land to another man, was yesterday brought before a Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ Court, Abuja.
Kalu was, however, remanded in prison custody until the next date of adjournment.
The accused, whose address is unknown, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and fraud.
Sgt. Christopher Johnson told the court that the case was reported by the complainant, Mr. Emmanuel Balogun of Citec Estate, Life Camp at Utako Police station on Dec. 11.
The prosecutor said the accused and his accomplice, Emmanuel Chijoke, still at large, conspired and deceived the complainant into paying for a plot of land at Lugbe, Airport Road, Abuja.
“The complainant paid the accused and his accomplice the sum of N1 million for the land.
“After collecting the money, they absconded until the accused was arrested on Dec. 11,” he said.
The offences contravened Sections 79 and 322 of the Penal Code, Laws of the Federation.
The accused pleaded not guilty.
Magistrate Fatima Bukar adjourned the case to Jan. 18 for further hearing. (NAN)
