Local equity market sustains bullish run, gains N244bn

Domestic equity market on Friday sustained a bullish run, gaining N244 billion as the trading session for the day closed in the green region. 

The benchmark NGX All-Share Index (NGXASI) gained 445.92 basis points to close at 83042.96 points from 82,597.04.38 points traded the previous day.

Market capitalisation of listed equities also increased by N244 billion or 0.54 per cent to N45.442 trillion from N45.198 trillion it closed on Thursday.

The gain recorded in the shares of Buafoods, Dangote Sugar, Cadbury Nigeria Plc, Eterna Plc, Flour Mills Nigeria Plc, GTCO Plc, Wapco, Unilever, Mutual Benefits and 40 other companies lifted the market activities for the day

The trading result for the week showed that the market gain N1.485 trillion or 3.37 per cent between Monday and Friday while index appreciated by by 2728 basis points within the same period of the week

An analysis of the investment showed that Mutual Benefits Insurance and SUNU Assurance led gainers table with 10 per cent each to close at N0.77 and N1.43 per share respectively. Ikeja Hotel followed with a gain of 9.96 per cent to close at N8.61 per unit, Unilever Nigeria Plc added 9.94 per cent to N18.25 per unit, Cadbury Nigeria Plc gained 9.82 per cent to close at N24.05 per unit.

On the contrary, IMG topped losers chart, declining by 9.15 per cent to N13.40 per share, UPDC trailed with a loss of 7.26 per cent to N1.66 per share, Omatek and Cutix fell by 5.00 per cent each to close respectively at N2.66 and N2.00 per share.

The volume of trades declined by 276.647 million shares, representing 31.53 per cent as investors traded 600.634 million shares worth N9.097 billion in 11697 deals against 877.281 million shares valued at N14.414 billion in 14919 deals.

Transactions in the shares of Transnational Corporation of Nigeria Plc led market activities with 54.438 million shares valued at N752.738 million, AccessCorp followed with account of 44.977 million shares worth N1.270 billion, United Bank for Africa traded 33.533 million shares valued N1.062 billion, Unilever Insurance exchange 33.304 million shares worth N12.062 million while Sterling Bank traded 33.206 million shares cost N216.416 million.
