Local equity market closes higher, gains N86bn

Trading activities on the floor of Nigerian Exchange (NGX) on Friday returned to positive note, gaining N86 billion following gain recorded in the shares of Dangote Sugar Refinery, Eterna Plc, FTNCocoa Plc, Nascon and 27 others.

Market capitalisation of listed equities appreciated by 0.24 per cent to N35.880 trillion from N35.794 trillion reported the previous day.

The NGX All Share Index also grew by 157.09 basis points to 65558.91 points from 65401.82 points traded the previous day.

The market recorded 31 gainers as against 24 companies that closed in a downward trend.

A review of investment showed that SFSReits led gainers table, appreciating by 9.97 per cent to close at N83.80 per share, Nascon followed with a gain of 9.95 per cent to close at N44.75 per unit, FTNCocoa gained 9.94 per cent to close at N1.99 per share, NEM Insurance increased by 9.90 per cent to close at N5.66 per share while Redstarex added 9.89 per cent to close at N2.89 per unit.

On the contrary, Prestige insurance topped losers chart, shedding 9.43 per cent to close at N0.48 per share, Tantaliser trailed with a loss of 9.38 per cent to close at N0.29 per share, Omatek fell by 9.09 per cent to close at N0.30 per unit, Mutual Benefits dipped by 8.89 per cent to close at N0.41 per share, Guinness Nigeria Plc declined by 7.41 per cent to close at N0.25 per unit.

The volume of trades declined by 227.072 million representing a drop of 63.78 per cent as investors traded 356.015 million shares worth N4.233 billion in 6569 deals against 583.087 million shares worth N12.902 billion in 6968 deals.

Transnational Corporation of Nigeria (Transcorps) led market activities with 76.715 million shares valued at N442.059 million, Fidelity Bank followed with 52.973 million shares cost N376.919 million, Universal insurance traded 17.839 million shares worth N3.673 million, FCMB group traded 16.705 million shares cost N98.799 million while Dangote Sugar Refinery exchanged 16.549 million shares valued at N773.931 million
