The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has announced the partial closure of the Ifako Expansion Joint Bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, deploying personnel to ensure seamless traffic flow during the critical 101-day rehabilitation project.

According to the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Hon Sola Giwa, the partial closure is essential for the reconstruction and structural reinforcement of the bridge, aimed at ensuring its long-term stability and functionality.

Giwa confirmed that LASTMA personnel had been comprehensively mobilised and strategically positioned at key junctures and potential congestion areas along the impacted corridor. This deployment is designed to guarantee uninterrupted vehicular movement, streamline traffic, and prevent gridlocks throughout the construction period.

“Despite the partial closure of the bridge, vehicular progression beyond the Ifako axis remains remarkably fluid, with a sustained and orderly flow extending toward the Toll Gate and contiguous arterial routes,” Giwa stated, attributing this efficiency to the rapid response and professionalism of LASTMA operatives.

The rehabilitation works are scheduled to span a total of 101 days. The project will be executed in two phases: Phase 1: Construction on the Ogudu/Ifako inbound Alapere section will take 50 days, from Saturday, June 28, to Saturday, August 16, 2025, while the Phase 2: Works on the Ogudu/Ifako inbound Oworonshoki section will last an additional 51 days, from Saturday, August 16, to Sunday, October 5, 2025.

Giwa expressed appreciation for road users’ patience and cooperation, urging all motorists to comply strictly with traffic signage and official instructions, and to respect traffic management officials. He also admonished both commercial and private vehicle operators to avoid actions that could obstruct the reconstruction or worsen traffic.
