Lagos Police respond to Adeniyi Johnson’s alleged traffic robbery claims

The Lagos State Police Command has issued a response to an Online publication dated May 12, 2025, regarding claims made by actor Adeniyi Johnson who alleged experiencing two attempted traffic robberies in Lagos.

In a statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the police expressed serious concern over any incidents of crime or attempted crime against innocent citizens. However, the Command noted that Mr. Adeniyi Johnson’s alleged experiences were not reported at any police station within Lagos State.

“Firstly, the allegation of the two attempted traffic robberies published in the noted publication by Mr. Adeniyi Johnson was not reported at any police station throughout the Lagos State Police Command; it is therefore unhelpful and unpatriotic,” the statement read. The police questioned why Mr. Johnson allegedly chose to share his experience as “comedy on social media and online publication” instead of reporting it to the police for prompt investigation and arrest of the perpetrators.

Despite this, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has directed an immediate round-the-clock raid of criminal hideouts and identified black spots in the Alapere general area and adjoining communities to rid the streets of criminal elements.

The Command emphasized that since CP Olohundare Jimoh assumed duty, various crime prevention strategies have been implemented, leading to a significant reduction in traffic robberies across the state. They stated that constant raids on criminal hideouts have yielded results, with numerous arrests, investigations, and prosecutions.

While assuring the public of their commitment to discreetly investigate all reported cases, the police urged residents and visitors to be vigilant and promptly report any crime or suspicious activity at the nearest police station, imploring them not to “dramatize crimes.”

The Command specifically called on Mr. Adeniyi Johnson to report the details of his experience at the nearest police station to enable them to identify the locations and prevent future occurrences.

The police also appealed to the media to conduct thorough investigations before publishing allegations to avoid causing unnecessary fear and apprehension among the public. They reassured residents that the alleged incident is being investigated and urged them to go about their duties without fear.
