The Lagos state Police command has arrested a man, Peter Dike, for allegedly stabbing his wife to death at the Morogbo area of Lagos state.
The tragic incident, which took place Wednesday morning, has sent shockwaves through the community.
While the exact motive behind the attack remains unclear, unconfirmed sources allege that Dike acted out of suspicion of infidelity. The couple had reportedly been married for nearly a decade before the fatal altercation.
The spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident, stating that operatives of the Morogbo Police Division in Badagry swiftly arrested the suspect.
“Unconfirmed sources alleged that the suspect stabbed his wife to death over allegations of infidelity,” Hundeyin said.
According to preliminary reports, Dike and his wife had engaged in a minor disagreement on the day of the incident. During the argument, Dike allegedly accused his wife of being unfaithful.
The disagreement escalated, and in a fit of rage, Dike reportedly grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed her in the abdomen.
The incident occurred at about 11:25 a.m. on Wednesday. A team of detectives, while on patrol around Oke-Ira Ilogbo Remi, received information about the attack and rushed to the scene.
Upon arrival, they found Dike clutching his wife’s lifeless body, which was soaked in blood, as he cried for help.
Following an inspection of the body, police officers confirmed that the woman had died.
Dike was immediately taken into custody, while the deceased’s body was transferred to the Badagry General Hospital mortuary for autopsy.
During interrogation, Dike reportedly confessed to the crime. The Lagos State Police Command has since announced that the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, for further investigation.
The police assured the public that justice will be served as investigations continue.
Meanwhile, residents of the Morogbo area have expressed deep sorrow over the incident, calling for increased awareness and intervention in cases of domestic violence to prevent further tragedies.
