The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Ishola Olanrewaju, has disclosed that the command prosecuted over 2,176 reported cases between September 2024 and January 2025 in Lagos state.
He also stated that the command lost 3 personnel in line of duty while trying to protect citizens in the state.
The CP stated this weekend during a press briefing held at the Command Headquarters, Ikeja, Lagos.
“During this period we had intelligence-led policing that resulted into the peaceful season that we had in Lagos,” he said.
The CP further disclosed that Lagos received huge number of visitors into the state, adding that many of them celebrated Christmas in Lagos.
According to him, the Command is well enabled to keep Lagos safe, noting that a total number of 2,176 cases were taken to courts during the period under review.
“We maintain a high level of professionalism in line with the external laws and rules of Nigeria in line with the world-based practices in investigating and prosecuting criminal offenses.
“We rescued many people in distress either one-chance robbery, kidnap attempts. We rescued them unhurt and they were united with their family while other offenders were taken to custody.
“Many have been prosecuted. We still have some remaining with us for further investigation. Today, we are parading a number of suspects as you can see for various offenses that range from armed robbery, carjacking, murder, kidnapping, abduction, gender-based violence, cyber bullying, cult activities, illegal possession of firearms, and vandalism,” he said.
He stated further that the command has summed up all the offenses into categories.
He added that all these were made possible because they kept to the directives given by the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Ebetokun and comparatively, Lagos is rated the safest state in Nigeria.
He also appreciated the Lagos state Governor, Mr. Governor Babajide Sonwolu, for his logistics support to the police in the quest to make Lagos safe.
He further added that the command lost 3 policemen on official duty.
“We want the public know that it is not all bed of roses for us. In the period of that review, I lost three policemen,” he said.
