A Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court has sentenced Taofik Oladosu to 12 years imprisonment for an attempted sexual assault on a 12-year-old minor (name withheld).
This was the judgment delivered by the court following Oladosu’s plea bargain agreement to the amended one-count charge of sexual assault.
Delivering the judgment, Justice Rahman Oshodi said he was satisfied that the convict understood the nature of offence he had pleaded guilty to.
Oladosu had pleaded guilty to an amended one-count charge of attempted sexual assault.
The court sentenced him to 14 years on one count and the sentencing will commence from December 14, 2015.
The state counsel, Okeowo, submitted that the convict attempted to sexually violates the survivor through non-consensual contact sometime in December 2015 at Oyo Street Mushin, Lagos state.
The offence contravenes Section 262 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
Initially, the convict was charged with defilement, an offence which attracts life imprisonment as punishment under the criminal law. However, following negotiations between the prosecution and his defence counsel, a plea agreement was reached dated April 11.
Oladosu was initially arraigned before Justice Nwaka on February 5, 2018. He pleaded not guilty.
The convict was later re-arraigned before Justice Oshodi on September 16, 2021, and he still pleaded not guilty, which prompted the prosecution to go into trial.
