Kwara speaks on ‘building new government house’

Kwara Governor

The Kwara State Government has debunked rumours suggesting that it is constructing a new Government House in Ilorin, the state capital.

The clarification was made on Tuesday during the official handing over of a construction site for new office buildings to Mapet Construction Ltd. The event was confirmed in a statement released on Wednesday by Kunle Gbadeyan, Press Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.

Speaking at the site, Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Dr. Segun Ogunsola, explained that the ongoing project is not a new Government House but a set of additional office blocks designed to accommodate more civil and public servants.

“There is no plan to build a new Government House. What we are doing is constructing new office blocks to support effective service delivery. The rumour going around is fake,” Dr. Ogunsola said.

He revealed that the new one-storey structure, sited next to the Deputy Governor’s Office, will feature multiple offices, a conference room, and other necessary facilities.

Dr. Ogunsola noted that the initiative is part of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s administration’s efforts to enhance productivity by providing a more functional and conducive working environment for government staff.

“These new offices will bridge existing gaps and meet the current trend of enhancing the smooth running of the state,” he added.

He also assured that the project will be closely monitored to ensure it is completed within the stipulated one-year period, urging the contractor to adhere strictly to quality standards and approved specifications.
