Gubernatorial aspirant, Abdulazeez Yinka Oniyangi, has stated that kwara State electorate are tired of imposition of persons at the helm of affairs in the state in the name of godfatherism.
Onigangi, who is aspiring to govern the state on the platform of the New Progressive Movement (NPM), lamented that the state since its creation had suffered in the hands of some individuals that almost converted it to their private estate thereby denying Kwarans their deserved infrastructural and development strides.
“Kwara state was one of the first states created in Nigeria, yet it has remained really backward in terms of development. Now, people are tired of the stereotypes who have been on the scene for long but without making any tangible impact in the society.
“Infrastructural development is almost non-existent and people like us who have cut our milk teeth in various forms of our endeavours think it is high time we got into the trench to make the desired difference”, he said stressing that the people are determined to take the bull by the horns by voting in persons who are capable of bringing the real change.
“For us in the New Progressive Movement our motto is ‘Success belongs to God’ and we believe whatever God decides so be it and if we are not going to be successful it does not matter. We don’t have any other place other than Kwara state that we can call our home so I don’t think getting the right people to come out and make the right challenge is the right way to go because we need to make a real challenge”.
According to him, the people are so disappointed with the present state things that they are yearning for a real change that would have positive impact in their lives.
Oniyangi insisted that the SDP apart from being the new on the block with fresh and stimulating ideas does not tolerate imposition of persons, arrogance and impunity and is determined to move away from the past.
“For us, we have to move away from what is called godfatherism and move on to the people, who are the real king makers. So we want to move away from those who advocates godfatherism, who decides who becomes king and move to the people, the electorate, who are the real kingmakers.
“Again, we want to move to the people, who can deliver economic dividends, and those things that make real positive impact in their lives. These should the determinant for being elected into power. For us, our three-point plan is education, healthcare and agriculture and these are what the ordinary citizens yearn for”, he said.
Oniyangi, the son of former INEC official, urged Kwarans to take advantage of the voter registration exercise to register and endeavour to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), noting that is the only weapon the people could use to vote out persons that have for years now failed to ensure real democratic dividends.
