Kogi State University, Anyigba, has inaugurated the newly elected executive council of its Student Union Government (SUG). This was followed by the directive issued by the Dean of Student Affairs, Professor S.S Arogba, recently.
In line with the directive, the elected executive officials were inaugurated at the university Senate Chamber an hour earlier than the time set for the inauguration, which was slated to take off exactly 11am.
With the university’s vice chancellor, M.S Abdulkadir’s arrival the Dean of Student Affairs declared the inauguration open.
The inauguration of the student executive was coming after more than a month from the date of the conduct of the elections to the SUG.
The elections however led to the emergence of Comrade Muhammed Hadi Idris as the union’s president, Enemona Daniel as the secretary general and Abubakar Onu Farouk as the financial secretary. The position of the vice presidency was however declared due to the disqualification of the aspirants for numerous reasons.
While admonishing the excos, Vice Chancellor M.S Abudulkadir challenged them to pool their individual strengths together towards the achievement of their administration.
“There is always much you can achieve by working together as a team.”
He urged them to begin their administration with honour and respect, saying would not be happy seeing them embarrassing one another on the social media because that disparages the image of the union and the university.
Shortly after the VC, the Dean of Student Affairs used the ceremony to recount his experience with the previous administration and advised them to adjust to any conflicting situation they might be confronted with.
“The Union as a body has organs and grievances amongst you should be exhausted at the appropriate unit before coming to the management for any complaint.”
That to him is a demonstration of political maturity and awareness of the conduct of governance.
The president, while thanking the university management for its commitment to student union activities, promised to maintain a robust relationship between the university management and the union. He therefore, called on all the Excos to remain truly committed to the mandate given to them.
The Union Secretary-General Daniel Enemona Adejoh on his part promised to keep the union secretariat’s doors and windows open to the Excos for thedir activities. He assured the Excos that their administration is “the one that will work.”
The Financial Secretary Onu Farouk equally used the medium to emphasize that the financial book of the union under their administration shall be prudently kept.
The president of the union used the occasion to appeal to students to be confident in their administration and the administration’s determination to succeed and protect the interests of the students.
