Kogi NUJ holds Press Week, offers free medical services

As part of activities marking this year’s Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kogi state Council, Press Week, the Council has organised free medical treatment s for children and adults.
Chairman of the union, Comrade Adeiza Momonjimoh, who disclosed this while briefing newsmen at NUJ Secretariat in Lokoja, on Wednesday, said a lot of activities had been put in place for the Week.
Adeiza disclosed that the programme would begin with Jumat prayers today (Friday) and Sunday service at Freedom of Chapel International, Adankolo New layout, Lokoja, on Sunday and fitness road walk on Wednesday.
The NUJ chairman said the Commissioner for Health, Dr Saka Haruna, would flag-off the free medical treatment which also included blood pressure checks and blood sugar screening for adults at the NUJ Press Center on Monday.
“A road show health-walk from NUJ press centre through Government House and Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja formed part of the week-long programme,” he said. He further said the Week would also feature fund raising and presentation of awards to personalities including Mr Femi Adesina; Prof.
Seidu Ogah, DG NASRDA; Dr Rajab Naibi, an industrialist and Alhaji Haruna Yusuf, CSO to Edo state Governor, among others.
Momohjimoh added that the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Professor Stephen Ocheni, “will be the Chairman of the occasion, while Governor Yahaya Bello will be the Special Guest of Honour and Chief of Staff, Chief Edward Onoja as Special Guest of Honour.
He added that the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to President Muhammadu Buhari, Mr.
Femi Adesina, “is expected to deliver a paper titled ‘The Media and news reporting in an election year.” The chairman said the NUJ was poised to contribute its quota to national development through programmes and activities including lectures, seminars and workshops that provide answers to national questions.
According to him, the union had arranged for a management consultant, Dr John Alabi, who will talk on how best to harness potentials of the inland waterways for economic prosperity of the country
