The Kebbi state government Tuesday said it would pursue the fight against drug abuse and addiction, especially Youth to a logical conclusion in view of the adverse effect on mental and physical wellbeing of users.
The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi, stated this at the NDLEA office in Birnin Kebbi, prelude to start of road walk in commemoration of the 2024 United Nations Day Against Drug Abuse and Trafficking.
The commissioner, who represented the Kebbi First Lady, the Ambassador Against Drug Abuse, Hajiya Zainab Nasare Nasir Idris, said the present administration would not rest until the ugly trend has been nipped in the bud.
“Governor Nasir Idris is an ardent campaigner against drug abuse and has provided the necessary support and wherewithal to all stake holders including the leading agency in the fight against drug addiction and trafficking, the NDLEA, to reverse the ugly scourge.
“Governor Idris will sustain the tempo until the target objective has been achieved”, the First Lady said.
In response, the NDLEA commander, Kebbi state, Suleiman Usman, said the agency has intensified proactive approach to the eradication of drug abuse, addiction and trafficking towards sanitising the healthy well-being of the society.
“We thank the office of the Kebbi First Lady, Hajiya Idris, our Ambassador Against Drug Abuse, for reinforcing our determination to total war against substance abuse, intoxicants and trafficking.
“We are highly grateful to Hajiya Nasare and His Excellency, Governor Idris for providing the NDLEA with material support including logistics for the effective operation of the agency”, the commander said.
The Commissioner for Information and Culture, accompanied by top officers of the NDLEA, corps members and students, led the road walk through major streets in Birnin Kebbi, with stop-over at markets and motor parks.
