Ahead of councils election in Kogi state, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the state has presented Certificates of Return to aspirants who have successfully scaled through the screening of Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC).
The Chairman of the party, Alhaji Mouktar Atima who presented the certificates to the candidates at the meeting of the State Executive Working Committee (SEWC) in Lokoja Sunday , charged the beneficiaries to work hard for the success of the party at the poll.
He noted that the party has been rated very high in the state, saying all the candidates presented for screening came out without a scratch, adding that the party is fielding 21 chairmanship , 21 vice chairmanship candidates and 239 Councillorship positions.
Atima who was full of praise for the resilience and commitment of the members of the party who could not be swayed in the face of paucity of funds and threats from the opposition party , called on them to still remain resolute and work as a family to win sizeable numbers of seats in the December 12, 2020 polls.
According to him, “working together as a family is so critical to the party as we have all it takes to create upsets and come out victorious in the election.
“I called on our members and party supporters not to be deterred by whatever antics the opposition may adopt to weaken their rising popularity”
He assured the candidates that the party’s superlative structures at the grassroots has made her the darling of the masses, saying the overwhelming acceptance of the party across the state has created fears in the opposition.
He called on the KOSIEC to create a level playing ground for all the parties , saying all eyes are on them to deliver free, fair and credible elections.
In his comment, the state secretary, Dr. Arome Okeme, congratulated the successful candidates and urged them to work harder to win all positions the party is Fielding candidates.
