Chief Judge of Kogi state, Justice Nasiru Ajanah, has charged the Magistrates in charge of the newly inaugurated Revenue Appeal Tribunal Court to discharge their duties without fear or favour.
Inaugurating the tribunal at the premises of the State High Court in Lokoja, the Chief Judge who was represented by the Chief Registrar of the court, Barrister Yahaya Ademu, urged the Magistrates to do a thorough job “so that the aims and the objectives of the revenue appeal court would not be defeated.”
In his remarks, the Executive Chairman of Kogi State Internal Revenue Service (KGIRS), Alhaji Yakubu Oseni, noted that the present administration was bent on applying world’s best practices, stressing that one of the applications was the establishment of the revenue court aimed at fulfilling the mandate of the autonomy granted the Service to generate and recover government revenue as well as debts.
The chairman, who was represented by the coordinating director, tax drive and strategies, Mr. John Salifu, expressed gratitude to Justice Ajanah for his prompt and speedy approval of the KGIRS request.
Magistrate Augustine Ayimiro, speaking, on behalf of other magistrates, advised the management and staff of KGIRS to always followed due process in revenue collection to ensure rapid dispensation of revenue matters brought before the court.
