Managing Director of Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KEDC), Alhaji Idris Mohammed, has urged all Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) customers within his jurisdiction to desist from paying for transformer repairs or installation, saying such costs will be borne by the company.
He said any PHCN staff that demands for such payment from any customer, such consumers should inform the management team to ensure that such staff is disciplined appropriately because such demands are fraudulent.
Addressing journalists yesterday, the PHCN boss said the repairs and maintenance of transformer were the sole responsibility of the distribution company, “hence, no customers should be saddle with any form of contributions.”
He said some parts of Kaduna metropolis “will soon enjoy free installation of free prepaid meter courtesy of World Bank project.”
“The areas to benefit from the take off project are Goni Gora, Rigasa, Hayin Damani and Kinkino,” he said.
Idris said electricity consumers in the zone that comprised Kaduna, Zamfara, Sokoto and Kebbi states, would henceforth enjoy uninterrupted 20 hours of power supply “because of improvement in electricity distribution by the company. This will increase to 24hours with the proposed commission of three injection substations at Air Force Base, Mothercat and Hanwa in Zaria.”
“With the expansion in landed property and increase in population the old substations located at Air Force Base, Mothercat and Hanwa cannot supply the needed power and that is why the federal government approved these substations which have been completed and awaiting commissioning and this will guarantee the 24hours power supply to the areas.
“The 24hours power supply will continue unless there are shortages in voltage or local faults and we are ready to address such issue within 24hours.”
