Katsina has spent N42.3bn on 465km roads – Commissioner

The Katsina state government says it has so far spent N42.3 billion on the construction of 18 new roads covering 465 kilometers across the state.

 The roads construction covers the period of 5 years from 2015 to 2020.

 Alhaji Tasiu Dandagoro, the Commissioner of Works, Housing and Transport stated this at a press briefing Thursday in Katsina.

 Dandagoro stated that the roads were constructed between 2015 to date.

 He said the roads were constructed with double layers instead of a single layer to enhance their lifespan for the benefit of the people in the state.

The commissioner stated further that 10 of the projects had already been completed, while the remaining eight were at various stages of completion.

 Dandagoro also said government spent N7.1 billion on the completion of road projects inherited from the previous administration in the state adding that all the projects are now 100 percent completed.

Dandagoro noted that the government awarded contract for the rehabilitation and upgrading of some roads inherited from the previous administration.

 He added that the roads covered a distance of 352.4 kilometres and said that N14.5 billion was spent on those inherited road projects across the state.

 Dandagoro noted that nine of the projects were completed while work on two projects were on process and the other one was just awarded.

 He noted that works at Tudun-iya-Maska-Dandume road and Dandume-Sabuwa roads were suspended due to insecurity challenges in those areas.
