In a landmark announcement aimed at promoting academic excellence, Kano state governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has pledged full foreign scholarships to the nine best graduating students of Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology (ADUST), Wudil.
This was contained in a statement issued by governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Saturday.
The governor made the announcement during the combined 5th convocation ceremony of the university on Saturday, where thousands of students were conferred with degrees and postgraduate qualifications.
Governor Yusuf said the foreign scholarship initiative is part of his administration’s broader agenda to reward merit, develop local talents, and expand the global exposure of Kano’s brightest minds.
“This administration is proud to sponsor the nine best graduating students to pursue further studies abroad. We are investing in your future because we believe your brilliance will bring pride and progress to Kano and Nigeria at large,” he said.
In a similar gesture, the governor also announced automatic employment for the best postgraduate student, adding that academic excellence must not go unrecognised or unrewarded.
“The best-performing postgraduate student will be offered immediate appointment with the Kano state government. We believe such exceptional individuals must be integrated into our system to help drive innovation and policy,” he stated.
Governor Yusuf congratulated all graduating students and charged them to serve as responsible ambassadors of the university and the state wherever they go.
The convocation also featured a series of major policy announcements, including a 50% reduction in registration fees for Kano indigenes, the rehabilitation of female hostels, provision of more buses to ease student transportation, and the allocation of 100 additional hectares for the university’s expansion.
The Governor lauded the institution’s founder, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, for his foresight in establishing the university, describing it as a “legacy project that continues to empower generations.”
