Kano State Government has taken delivery of two power generating turbines, which are value is put at N14 billion.
The initiative started by the present government in the state is an Independent Power Projects (IPP).
A statement issued by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Kano state government, Halilu Ibrahim Dantiye, said the two power projects are cited in Tiga and Challawa dams to address the problem of power supply in the state, further disclosing that with the delivery, the power project would soon take off.
Giving assurance on the project, the state governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, said a total of 12 containers of electrical materials had so far been received.
“The two projects were approved at the sum of N14.2 billion, in addition to N2 billion for taking electricity to the city,” he said.
He said that Tiga IPP was capable of generating 10mw, and that 5mw would be used to power Tamburawa and Challawa water works.
He said the remaining 5mw to be produced by the IPP would be used to power street lights at night, while during the day, it would be sold to industries in order to generate revenue and employment.
He further disclosed that 25 mw for Challawa Gorge IPP would solely be for commercial purposes.
