Kano government partners Zirconex on standard mining laboratory

The Kano state government is dedicated to ensuring the establishment of a state-of-the-art solid mineral analysis laboratory in the state.

In a press statement in Kano, Thursday, the Commissioner in charge of the ministry, Alhaji Safiyanu Kachako, made this announcement Wednesday in Abuja during a study tour of the Zirconex Metals and Mining Laboratory. The tour aimed to assess the laboratory’s competence in solid mineral analysis and to inspect its operational standards.

Accompanied by Permanent Secretary, Engr Mansur Yakubu and Director of Public Enlightenment, Alhaji Adamu Ibrahim Dabo, the commissioner expressed optimism regarding the operational procedures and the advanced laboratory testing equipment observed at the Abuja-based facility.

Alhaji Hamza Safiyanu assured the laboratory management of the state government’s readiness to leverage its competencies for establishing a Solid Mineral Sample Analysis Laboratory, which aims to serve as a central hub for the entire northern region of Nigeria.

President of Zirconex Group, Mr. Christopher Unyime Ebong, who guided the commissioner and his team through the laboratory units, explained that the facility primarily focuses on three areas: Mineral and Geochemical Analysis, Water Analysis, and Exploration and Mining Services.

He highlighted that the laboratory analyzes approximately 300 samples per day from Nigeria and neighboring countries, including Niger and Chad, and as well serves as a vital link to local and international mineral buyers.
