Women’s Interfaith Council under the Community Action for Peace and Socio Economic Development Project (CAPSED), with sponsorship from the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development (CAFOD), Thursday organised training for women, girls and few young men from the crisis- ridden communities of Dangoma and Goska in Jema’a local government area, Kurmin Masara and Zango urban communities in Zangon Kataf local government area.

The training was on sustainable agriculture, climate change, psychological support and trauma healing.

Speaking at the training which took place at Unity Wonderland Hotel, Kafanchan, the executive director, Women’s Interfaith Council, Sister Veronica Onyeanisi, stated that the beneficiaries are predominantly farmers and they are living in despair with lots of pains and hatred in their hearts.

“Most of them have lost their major sources of livelihood and they are traumatised by the gory experiences of the crisis that have engulfed their communities.”

Onyeanisi stated that the training will help in healing psychological wounds and give people hope and support to pick up life and live peacefully with one another, irrespective of differences.

In his presentation, Mr Linus Adetessor, discussed sustainable agriculture and climate change and trained participants on modern- day farming that will improve yield, consume less resources and at the same time sustain the environment for future generations.

The training went emotional when Dr Joyce Iorver took the stage and delivered the lecture, titled trauma in victims of disaster and early detection for prompt intervention.

She spoke on the need not to hold grief against attackers, especially those who killed their loved ones and burnt their belongings.

She encouraged them to open up, saying the moment they share their experiences, the easier they forgive and forget, adding that if they don’t forgive, they will continue to live with the wounds which are harmful to them physically and emotionally.
