The Kaduna state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed speculations of internal rifts and looming defections, instead declaring full confidence in the party’s national leadership and a firm resolve to reclaim lost political ground from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Rising from an expanded caucus meeting in Kaduna on Sunday, the party reaffirmed its unity ahead of upcoming bye-elections and expressed support for the proposed national elective convention aimed at repositioning the PDP as a viable alternative at both state and federal levels.
Chairman of the party in the state, Sir Edward Percy Masha, who signed the communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, said the caucus resolved to distance itself from what it called baseless rumours linking key figures to plans of dumping the PDP.
The meeting passed a vote of confidence in the party’s Board of Trustees, the PDP Governors’ Forum, and its national leadership, urging members across the country to rally behind ongoing efforts to stabilise and rebrand the party.
It also welcomed plans by the national leadership to explore strategic alliances and partnerships that could strengthen the PDP’s chances ahead of future elections.
“As a party in Kaduna State, we are united, we are focused, and we have resolved to work harmoniously for the success of PDP candidates in the three constituencies where bye-elections are imminent, as well as in all future contests,” the communiqué read in part.
It was gathered that the meeting also focused on rebuilding grassroots support structures, enhancing internal discipline, and providing a clear direction for the party’s engagement with voters disillusioned by what they described as the APC’s poor performance in Kaduna.
The expanded caucus session was attended by serving and former lawmakers, party elders, local government chairmen, youth and women leaders, and key stakeholders drawn from the three senatorial zones.
