National president of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Mr. Chris Isiguzo has said journalists are not just reporters but agenda setters for positive change in the society.
Mr Isiguzo made the statement on Monday in Abuja during one day workshop on effective collaboration in corruption prevention organised by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in collaboration with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) with the support from MacArthur Foundation.
The workshop which had the theme; “Power of the pen in fight against corruption,” was declared open by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, represented by the Chairman Senate Committee on Anti-Corruption and Financial Crimes, Sen. Udende Emmanuel.
Also in attendance were the chairman, ICPC, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, Country Director, MacArthur Foundation, Dr. Kole Shettima, among others
According to Isiguzo, the workshop was to explore the potentials of the media as a force for positive charge, especially in combating corruption.
According to him, corruption is one of the impediments to the progress of Nigeria as it undermines the law of the land and widening inequality among the people in the society.
He commended the ICPC and MacArthur Foundation for organising the workshop which would serve as a platform to strengthen partnership and collective efforts to achieve a transparent and accountable Nigeria.
