Jigawa: PDP retains seat in NASS re-run election

 

Honourable Yakubu Adamu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a member representing Birninkudu/Buji federal constituency, has retained his seat in a re-run election held on Saturday January 3th, 2924 in Jigawa state.

Adamu who scored 43,053 votes defeated his challenger, Honourable Aliyu Da’u of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who polled 43, 544 votes.

Adamu was declared the winner by the returning officer, Professor Ahmad Baita of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The rerun election followed an order by the Appeal Court which declared the BirninKudu/Buji federal constituency election inconclusive and ordered a rerun in eight polling units of the two local government areas.

“Adamu of PDP polled 43,053 votes, while Aliyu Da’u of the APC scored 42,544 votes.

“The votes garnered by each candidate at the rerun election had been added to the votes scored by each candidate during the earlier elections last year in order to declare the winner of the constituency’s seat at the green chamber.

“I, Professor Ahmed Baita Garko, hereby certify that I’m the returning officer for the 2024 Birnin Kudu/Buji constituency rerun election, held on the 3rd of February 2024,” he said.

According to him that the election was contested and the candidates received the following votes.

“Kamalu Usaman of ADC scored 81 votes, Isa Ado of ADP scored 170 votes, Da’u Magaji Aliyu of APC Scott 42,544 votes, Ali Abdullahi Umar of NNPP scored 1,106 votes, Adamu Yakubu of PDP scored 43,053 votes and Abdullahi Buhari of SDP scored 62 votes. 

“That Adamu Yakubu of PDP, having satisfied the requirements of law, is hereby declared winner and returned elected,” Baita announced.
