Jigawa governor loses mother while on foreign trip

The Jigawa state governor, Malam Umar Namadi, has lost his mother, Hajiya Maryam Namadi Umar, Wednesday, while in a visit to China.

A statement by the governor’s chief press secretary, Hamisu Muhammad Gumel, said Hajiya Maryam, passed away in the early hours of Wednesday, December 25, 2024.

He said the news comes as a shock, coinciding with Governor Namadi’s official trip to China, where he is engaged in efforts to foster economic ties and attract investments to the state.

Gumel said the burial rites for Hajiya Maryam has taken place on Wednesday at 4:30 pm in her hometown of Kafin Hausa, in accordance with Islamic traditions.

He said despite the governor’s absence, Namadi has conveyed his grief and expressed heartfelt appreciation for the outpouring of condolences from across the state and beyond. 

He added that the governor’s family has requested prayers for the peaceful repose of Hajiya Maryam’s soul.

Dignitaries, family, and well-wishers had gathered in Kafinhausa for the burial and offer support to the grieving family.
