Jigawa governor commissions N1.2bn solar mini-grid project

Umar Namadi

Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa Tuesday commissioned a N1.2 billion solar-hybrid mini-grid project in Kafin Hausa local government area of the state.

The 500KW project is a collaborative effort between the state government, Future Energies Africa (FEA), and Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), which aims to improve power supply and boost economic activities in the state.

While commissioning the project, Governor Namadi described it as a “visionary investment” that will empower the people and drive sustainable development.

However, the mini-grid project features a 500KWp solar-hybrid power plant, a 3.5km 33kV distribution line, and step-up and step-down transformers.

Dr. Abubakar Jimeta, managing director of KEDCO, said the project will supply power to 10 major distribution transformers across Kafin Hausa town and environs.

He said the project is expected to alleviate pressure on the national grid, enhance energy access, and support economic growth.

Jigawa state Commissioner of Power and Renewable Energy, Surajo Musa, highlighted the project’s socio-economic impact.
