JCI rallies support for Makurdi flood victims

Junior Chamber International (JCI Nigeria) as part of its contribution to alleviate the suffering of flood victims in Benue state has concluded plans to provide clean water supply for the victims.

A press statement by 2017 President of JCI Nigeria, JCI Senator Richard Babajide Ojo, said the chamber was working closely with relevant government agencies to support efforts in alleviating the extensive losses and damage caused by this natural disaster.

He said: “Since the disaster began, JCI has reached out to National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA), and Nigerian Red Cross to offer the support of our organisation in addressing the challenges being faced by the victims.

“We believe that the brotherhood of man transcends religion, ethnicity or races and so we have decided to take further actions as active citizens through our initiative tagged “JCI Operation Hope Activated for Makurdi.

“In conjunction with our partners and natives, JCI members in Makurdi and in other parts of the country will donate cash, food, clothing materials, drugs and other supplies to support a humanitarian response on behalf of the National body.”

The president, who decried that over 110,000 people have been displaced without access to clean water, food, shelter, healthcare and other basic needs, disclosed that: “Our team, led by JCI Nigeria National Director, Programs and Project, Adeniyi Balogun, will on Thursday kick start with provision of fresh clean water, as our entry point into the relief project, while we conclude on other relief efforts.

“As the largest organization for young people committed to serving humanity while providing leadership opportunity for positive change, JCI Nigeria has set up locations where the relief materials can be coordinated in different parts of the country in addition to an integrated online portal www.activecitizens.ng/jcioperationhope where cash donations can be made.

“It is on this note that I call on good meaning Nigerians to come to our aid as JCI seeks collaboration with partners and stakeholders to provide adequate support for the people of Benue state who have been affected by this disaster.”
