It’s South’s turn in presidency till 2031 – Igbinedion

INEC voting election 1

Erstwhile governor of Edo state, Chief Lucky Igbinedion, has stressed the need for equity in the nation’s presidency, declaring that it was the turn of a southerner to be president till 2031.

Igbinedion noted that he would throw his weight behind any other southern candidate from his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He explained that he was unperturbed with the gale of defections in PDP, adding, “defection is a characteristic of the average Nigerian politician and I foresee them coming back to the PDP or another party.”

According to him, “There was a time when the PDP had the highest number of governors in this country. We saw PDP both in the South and in the North.

“It is now APC’s turn. They will be deflated sooner or later and whether it is going to be PDP or a new party, only God knows.”

Igbinedion disclosed this to journalists shortly after he led some PDP leaders on a condolence visit to the residence of former Chief Whip of the Senate, Sir Rowland Owie, over the death of his wife, Lady Helen Owie.

Leaders of the party who were on the delegation include, the State chairman of the party, Dr.Tony Aziegbemi, former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chief Tom Ikimi, among others.

Igbinedion discribed Owie as an ally, adding, “I also admire him a lot because to be married for fifty years is not a joke.

“To lose a life partner can be very saddening and we came to condole with him and wish continuous God’s strength.”

Speaking earlier, the PDP chairman, Dr. Aziegbemi, told Owie that they shared in his grief, adding “we want to tell you that your wife is in heaven and as they say, there is no right time for anybody to die but the time destined”.
