IPOB denies mosque arson, assures non-indigenes of safety

Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has dissociated from a recent burning of mosque in Igbo Eze North LGA of Enugu, while assuring Muslims and other aliens of their safety in the zone.

The group which spoke through its Media and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Emma Powerful, explained that it was non-violent freedom fighters and would always maintain its approach in their struggle for self-determination.

IPOB, however, accused the army and South-east governors of orchestrating such attacks to stir bad blood between them and other ethnic nationalities.

This came as Godwin Chukwunaenye Ezeemo called on the federal and state government to follow due process in resolving the conflict involving the IPOB while condemning in strong terms the recent labelling of the IPOB group as terrorists.

The PPA gubernatorial candidate in Anambra state bewailed how South-east governors played down several accounts of loss of Igbo lives and properties within their states but were quick to label the IPOB terrorists when the group has never been recorded as having brandished weapons nor harmed anyone.

“The government should not forget that the mandate to rule came from the people and that the people ca impeach them if they fail in their duties to protect lives and properties in their state. The voice of the people should be heard because they form the nucleus of every democratic government,” he said.
