Insecurity: Katsina community laments poor representation by NASS member

A member of the House of Representatives, representing Malumfashi and Kafur, Hon. Aminu Ibrahim, has been criticised for not being active.

The concerned citizens of Burdugau G’ Malumfashi local government area in Katsina state  stated this in a statement signed by Malam Sanusi Muhammad Burdugau on Sunday in Gusau.

The statement said on the 25th February, bandits besieged Burdugau town  in Malumfashi local government, kidnapped 11 people, mainly married women and one person. They killed one and made away with all valuables, comprising animals and foodstuffs belonging to the community.

They said residents lamented that the member representing them kept mute without even commiserating with the community.

“We don’t know the importance of our member representing Malumfashi and Kafur federal constituency because he has shown no concern,” the statement reads in part.

The statement said 5,000 people left their ancestral residences occasioned by bandits nefarious activities in Burdugau town,  adding that the state government under the leadership of Governor Dikko Umar Radda, had not responded to their calls  for presence of security personnel in  the area with a view to enable them return to their homes and continue with their normal life.

“Despite our clarion calls to the state government to come to our aid, up to now, nothing has been done for us to go back to our respective residences to continue with our normal life,” the statement reads.

The concerned people of Burdugau also urged Governor Radda to personally come to their town and witness the situation and not to stay in Katsina without taking any proactive measures on the lingering insecurity affecting the community and other parts of the state.

They further informed Katsina state government that  Burdugau town is an agrarian area in which 99% percent of the community relied on farming as their of livelihood.

They warned that  if urgent measures are not taken by the appropriate authority in the state, the issue of farming would not be possible this coming rainy season and hundreds of people will  experience serious hunger and abject poverty.
