The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), led by its Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, on Friday paid a condolence visit to the family of the late National Commissioner, Maj.-Gen. Modibbo Alkali (retd.), who passed away on Monday, April 28, 2025.
The INEC Chairman was accompanied by the full leadership of the Commission; National Commissioners, Directors, the Secretary to the Commission, and Senior Aides to the family residence in Kaduna to honour the memory of a man widely regarded as one of INEC’s most dedicated and hardworking members.
Until his passing, Maj.-Gen. Alkali (retd.) served as Chairman of the Commission’s Appointment, Promotion and Discipline Committee (APDC).
He played a pivotal role in INEC’s strategic planning on electoral security and was instrumental in overseeing the safe deployment of personnel and materials, particularly in high-risk areas during elections.
The visit concluded with prayers for the peaceful repose of the late General’s soul.
Maj.-Gen. Alkali is survived by his wives, children, and grandchildren. He has since been laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites.
