The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has stated that the change of logo by the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) was approved by the commission following due process.
The Chief Press Secretary to the INEC chairman, Mr Rotimi Oyekanmi, who spoke on behalf of his boss, said allegations made by the NNPP Founder and Board of Trustees Chairman, Dr Boniface Aniebonam, in his press conference on Wednesday was not true.
The INEC chairman’s aide while debunking the allegation, said the commission was not fueling the crisis in the party, pointing out that the commission was aware that the party had some cases in court and prayed that it resolved the issues as soon as possible.
Aniebonam had alleged that INEC was biased having approved the change of logo by the Ajuri-led faction loyal to Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso as well as attended its convention against the Major Agbo-led faction.
The Chief Press Secretary to the INEC chairman said, “First, it is not true that INEC is fueling the crisis within the NNPP. We stand to gain nothing from that. On the contrary, INEC is always trying to resolve, rather that fuel any internal party crisis. And that is why we have the Alternative Dispute Resolution Desk to deal with crises within political parties.
“Again, the commission approved the change of logo by the NNPP following due process. There’s nothing we do in INEC without following due process. There party has some cases in court and we hope they should resolve the matter as soon as possible.”
