Re-elected governor of Ondo state Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa and his deputy Mr Olayide Adelami, on Wednesday, received their certificates of return after their victory in the November 16 governorship election in the state.
Aiyedatiwa who was at the Abuja headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Wednesday afternoon to receive the certificate expressed gratitude to INEC for conducting a free, fair, credible and transparent election in Ondo state.
Accompanied by his deputy, the governor of Ogun state, Dapo Abiodun, and the national chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, Aiyedatiwa said his re-election would afford him the opportunity to continue to serve the people better.
He said: “The mandate you have just renewed via your huge votes across the 18 LGAs where we won convincingly has placed a burden on me to serve you better than I did before now.”
He also thanked President Bola Tinubu, whom he said provided a level playing field for all parties.
Also speaking at the occasion, the Supervisory National Commissioner of Ondo state, Prof Kunle Ajayi, also commended the Ondo electorate for their “peaceful way that they conducted themselves during the election.
He noted that “there was no major electoral violence” adding that the commission would continue to deliver credible, free and fair elections across the country.
Prof Ajayi stated that INEC’s outing in Ondo state, especially, through the deployment of technology, demonstrated its resolve to continue to improve on future elections in Nigeria.
He also hailed security agencies for their professional conduct which made the peaceful conduct possible.
