Civil servants in Imo state, Tuesday, defied the directive given by the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to embark on a 2-day warning strike to protest federal government’s inability to reach an agreement with them on fuel subsidy removal and other boiling national issues.
Blueprint correspondent, who visited the State Secretariat and Imo House of Assembly at New Owerri, gathered that all the offices of the two state institutions were open and workers were as usual, doing their jobs and those who had not gotten their own shares of government’s palliative rice, seized the opportunity to ensure that their shares were gotten.
Also, various commercial banks and government parastatals in town were working in full swing as customers besieged them for one transaction or the other.
Reacting to the development, a top government functionary in the state commended workers for not complying with the NLC directive, saying that there was no need for that since the governor was taking good care of the workers.
