The lawmaker representing Ideato Federal Constituency (Ideato North and South) in the National Assembly, Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, has demanded that the monthly allocation accruing Ideato North and South local government areas from the federation account be made public.
Ugochinyere while addressing newsmen Thursday in Owerri, said making it public would enable his constituents know how millions of Naira which accrue to the two local government areas on a monthly basis from the federation account are spent.
He said they would know in what projects they are spent and the person that spends them.
He also said that his demand became necessary because his constituents needed to enjoy democracy dividends from the monthly allocations of more than N300 million that go to the LGAs and that as a lawmaker, he should not always be expected to construct school buildings, provide amenities which the allocations should be taking care of.
He lamented that in addition to lack of attention to schools and other infrastructure in the area, insecurity is not given its due attention as vigilante groups are not being paid by the government but through community efforts.
On the situation in his party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as it affects his membership, he made it clear that his group is not being treated fine.
He said that a situation whereby an influential or popular member like him was threatened with expulsion through the court by a group, even though the matter was quashed, meant that his group was not being treated fine and that they would not hesitate to go to where they would be embraced if it continued
