Imo: INEC declares Ozuruigbo winner for Reps seat

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Ugonna Ozuruigbo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) the winner of the recently conducted Nwangele/Nkwere/Isu/Njaba Federal Constituency election in Imo state.

The collation officer for the federal constituency, Prof. Rosetta Okechukwu, who announced him winner at the federal constituency office in Nwangele LGA on Friday, disclosed that he polled 19,971 votes to beat the Labour Party candidate who got 9,372 votes as the  All Progressives Congress (APC) came third with 8,991 votes.

INEC had on February 27 declared the election inconclusive, stating that election did not take place in parts of Njaba LGA.

However, the PDP candidate challenged the electoral empire’s decision to declare the election inconclusive, arguing that his margin of votes of lead was higher than the number of permanent voter cards collected in areas the election didn’t take place.

Reacting to his victory, Ozuruigbo said he was happy that the will of his people prevailed and that he would be going back to the House of Representatives to improve the lot of his constituents.
