Benue state governorship aspirant under the platform of the All Progressive Congress, Mr. Titus Dzam, has promised to run a people-driven government, saying his administration will be anchored on a five point agenda if elected in the 2019 election.
Mr. Dzam was the immediate past Adviser to Governor Samuel Ortom on Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
He was dropped by the governor during his cabinet reshuffle after which he joined the governorship race.
Dzam, who addressed a press conference yesterday in Makurdi to mark his official declaration, named his five point agenda to include security, civil service reformation, institutionalization of good governance culture, agriculture and urban/rural renewal, education and health, and youth empowerment and poverty reduction.
He said he would serve the state for only four yours, noting that to achieve his five point agenda, he would work in line with the people oriented manifesto of the APC and will involve all stakeholders and experts in the running of government.
On security, the former aide to governor Ortom said he would adopt a multidimensional approach towards tackling the state security challenges being conscious of the fact that no development can take place in an unsafe environment.
He said he would maintain the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law 2017, but with some modifications, especially as it relates to its enforcement.
“I will proscribe Livestock Guards and instead synergize with conventional security agencies such as the military and the police for proper and effective enforcement of the law.
“I shall reorganize the Benue state vigilante to make it more reputable and functional,” he added.
He also noted that he will give priority to modernise and commercialised agriculture to make it more attractive for the Youths.
“As part of my strategy to sustain economic growth and support higher education, a by-partisan commitment to investment in apprenticeship, internship and work-study programmes proven to equip the youths for the world of work will be invented in such a way that Benue youths will not be middle,” he noted.
