Following the continued protest in some parts of the country on emancipation of the independent people of Biafra (IPOB), Igbo community Assembly, ICA, has condemned the act and called for more unity among Ndigbo.
Chairman of the Assembly in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Leonard Ezenwa Ebo, stated this at the launching of its maiden calendar and induction of the patrons and legal advisers. Chief Ebo urged the protesters to down tools and brainstorm on better issues that would bring about more unity among Igbos across the thirty six states of the federation including FCT.
He said there was the need to be specific in the quest than generalizing, which was creating unnecessary tension in the country. What Igbo need is not Biafra but how to progress in unity and peace, we have to follow one path, either Biafra or president of this country.
“The question is what are we looking for, presidency or Biafra. Those protesting have to identify one thing and follow it through peaceful means. At present Ndigbo should work on having more unity and president of the country not Biafra.
“We fought a war in the cause of Biafra and did not succeed, Nigeria say it don’t want Biafra, so lets us stop”
Ebo pointed out that it was time for the intellectuals, religious leaders and traditional rulers in Igbo land to come together and provide the compass for the survival of its people in Nigeria with a blueprint that would articulate not only what is to be done but how to achieve it.
In an interview at the occasion, the Eze Igbo 1 of Zamfara state, His Royal Highness (HRH) Igwe Egbuna Obijiaku, called on all Igbo communities in FCT to be united and abide by the laws of the land.
He noted that violence was not the conventional approach when seeking for recognition by the Federal government even as he appealed to the government to temper justice with mercy in handling the arrested Biafra voice frontier.
“Federal government should at least give him another chance or warning, if he fails, then he will be detained.
“When someone commit an office is better to give him/her some grace to watch whether it will be continued before taking final action” he said.
