The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) Sokoto state chapter has inaugurated new leadership to run the affairs of the body for s period of time
The new leadership which emerged unopposed has Alhaji Abdul Ganiyyu Mustapha who was formerly secretary of ICAN Sokoto and District Society as 6th chairman
Speaking during the inaugural ceremony held at Maigari Hall, Sokoto Guest Inn, the national president, Malam Haruna Yahaya, urged the new leadership to uphold the sanctity, values and always be committed to the profession.
Haruna who was represented at the occasion by the Northern Zone Chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Alkali, also charged the new leadership to embrace new innovation and leverage technology to address emerging trends in the accounting profession
“I want reiterate the ICAN commitment to embracing new innovation and leveraging technology to address emerging trends in the accounting profession,
“2025 will be a year of positioning ICAN as a tech-forward, purpose-driven, and inclusive institute, adopting a digital-first approach in all engagements,” he said.
“We are also exploring alternative educational methods to ensure our members remain at the forefront of developments in the accounting profession,” he added.
The president, however said the ICAN remain committed to strengthen the profession’s global relevance , with aim to enhance members employability,
He commended the outgoing leadership for keeping the ideals of the profession and their examplary leadership and initiatives during their tenure
In his remarks, the Sokoto state Commissioner of Commerce, Trade and Industry, Alhaji Haruna Bashir, described ICAN as one of the important pillar in nation building
Bashir who was the special guest of honour, said ICAN has over the years, proven itself not just a gatekeeper of professionals ethics and standard in accuracy, but as a crucial pillar in nation building
He noted that the contribution of ICAN in Sokoto in both public and private sectors are deeply valued ensured accountability , transfarrency and prudent financial management in public and private organizations
“As a member of ICAN, and a public servant, I understands the immense values that the accounting profession brings to governance
He assured his ministry commitment to deepen its collaboration with ICAN particularly in areas such as enterprise development , financial literacy for MSMEs capacity building and economic data management
Bashir charged the new leadership to take pride in the high standard of the noble profession explained that the future belongs to those who uphold intergrity, pursue continues learning and serve with distinction
He commended the outgoing leadership for their dedication and commitment and urged the incoming leaders to emulate them
In his valedictory address, the outgoing Chairman, Alhaji Ismaeel Sulaiman, expressed hope that the ICAN Sokoto and District Society would continue to thrive
He acknowledged and appreciated the support and contributions of the outgoing executives to his leadership
He thanked the executive committee members for their dedication and the stakeholders for their cooperation.
In his acceptance speech, the new Chairman, expressed gratitude for the transparent process that led to his emergence
He pledged to adopt an inclusive leadership approach focused on transparency, accountability, and active member participation.
Mustapha described his election as a call to collective action and a renewed commitment to professionalism, integrity, and national development
